Who is Robby Angel? Unpacking the Secret Figure

Robby Angel, or more lovingly known as Robby, is a little different from what you'd expect to find if you stumble across him in your blind box instead of a Sonny Angel figure. He adds a little mystery and excitement to each series he appears in! Loved by some, less by others - he's a surprise secret figure that many hope is lurking inside their blind box, and they're curious to see what he'll be dressed as.

Who is Robby Angel?

Robby is a friend and playful companion to the Sonny Angels. Officially, he can change his body colour like a chameleon and likes to dress up, often copying the style of the Limited Edition Sonny Angel figures in the same series or appearing in the colour that represents each Regular Series.

He's also smaller than Sonny Angel, but he has a habit of finding ways to make himself a little taller. More on that below!

Mouse or Rabbit?

Many fans think he resembles a mouse, while others see him as a rabbit or rat. Officially, it's not clear what animal he is. He may not look like a chameleon, but the comparison accurately describes his ever-changing appearance!

Robby's Role in the Sonny Angel World

As a secret figure and rare find, Robby amps up the excitement if you stumble across him in your Sonny Angel blind box. He appears in most series except Hippers, typically with a 1 in 144 chance of finding him. You'll find the odds for each series printed on the side of the blind box packaging. The ratio refers to chance - for every 144 blind boxes produced, the manufacturer hides a Robby in just ONE.

Robby is often one of two Secrets in a series, accompanied by a Secret Sonny Angel figure in a matching or similar costume.

Robby's mini stand

Robby's a short king - and for some reason he wants to be tall like Sonny Angel. So he'll often be packed with a little stand to make him taller! Typically, it's a separate stand, though in some Limited Editions he finds other clever ways to be taller, like Circus Robby, who has hidden clown stilts under his pants.

How do you find a Robby Angel?

Because Robby and his stand are separate pieces inside the sealed foil packaging, a Sonny Angel blind box with a Robby can sometimes feel lighter or shake differently. It's not a guaranteed way to know, but fans often find they just feel a little different.

If you do find a Robby Angel, consider yourself extra lucky! If you want to increase your chances, buying a sealed set of six or 12 blind boxes (depending on the series) can help. If it contains a Secret or Robby, one of the regular figures will be swapped out - they don't arrive as an extra.

Which Series Does Robby Angel Appear In?

Robby Angel appears across many Sonny Angel series, changing colour or costume to suit each collection. You'll also see plenty of nods to Robby's iconic head shape in some Sonny Angel figures across the series.

Regular Series

Every current Regular Series includes a Robby, with a different solid colour for each collection. Colour is one of the easiest ways to narrow down which Robby Angel you've found. Though sometimes it can be a little confusing as series like Marine & Animal V4 both have slightly different blue Robby Angels! To help identify your Robby, we've pulled together photos of all the different colours found in the Regular series. The stand can be another clue when you’re trying to tell similarly coloured Robbys apart. For example, the Sweets Series Robby and his stand are the same colour, while the Animal Series Version 2 stand is a slightly different shade from the Robby figure itself.

Gift Series Robby

Robby also appears in the Flower Gift and Birthday Gift Bear Series, complete with a stand that reflects the theme. The Birthday Cake Gift Series, is the only regular Gift-series that doesn't feature a Robby.

Hipper Series

Robby has never appeared in the Hippers range, but you never know what a future release might bring.

Limited Edition Series

Robby isn't in every Limited Edition, but most include one. When he appears, he fully embraces the theme. His elaborate costumes can make his appearance a highlight for collectors, sometimes even overshadowing the Secret Sonny Angel. You'll find him dressed as a clown in the Circus Series or copying his Secret friend's outfit in the Home Sweet Home Series. Some Limited Editions even include more than one Robby design to find.

Which Series feature multiple Robby Angel figures?

For mega Robby fans like us, it's extra exciting when a Limited Edition features multiple Robby designs. A series with multiple designs can also give you a better chance of finding one if you really want a Robby in your Sonny Angel collection. We've found these are typically seasonal limited editions.

How Much is Robby Angel Worth?

It depends on the Robby. Given the Regular Series are always in production, more of them are out there. They still tend to sell or trade for considerably more than your typical Sonny Angel figure. Given a Robby is usually found in just 1 in 144 blind boxes, they're far from easy to find.

Limited Edition Robbys can sell for much more because the series may have only been available for a short period, and demand varies enormously between designs. Circus Robby is one of the most in-demand examples. It came from a hugely popular limited run and stands on clown stilts instead of a separate stand, making it feel especially different from others!

If you're working out what a Robby may be worth, check recent sold listings rather than asking prices. The series, collector demand, condition and whether it still has its original box, foil packaging and stand can all affect what someone is willing to pay or trade for it.

Tips for buying, selling or trading Robby:

If you're looking to buy, sell or trade your Robby, a word of warning: because they're rare, counterfeits are now sadly quite common.

• Always buy your Sonny Angel from an official Sonny Angel Australia stockist (like us!).
• Make sure the figure comes with its original packaging (both box and foil wrapper) and, ideally, the original receipt to prove it's legit.
• Consider attending buy/swap meets in larger cities, where the figure can be inspected in person before handing anything over.
• When shopping online, avoid platforms like Alibaba/Amazon and stick to ones with stronger buyer and seller protections, like Depop and eBay. PayPal can offer extra protection too.
