Real vs fake Sonny Angel: spot the difference
Ready for a quick test? Take a look at the figure, box and packaging - can you tell which Sonny Angel is fake?
If the price doesn’t give it away, the series name might. There’s no such thing as a Sonny Angel Animal V3 Hipper, which is a pretty good clue that something’s off before you even get to the figure itself. Real Hippers should match an official Hippers series.

Five simple ways to spot a fake:

Stamped feet or base:
Real: Authentic Sonny Angel figures have “Sonny Angel © Dreams”, “Made in China” and a year, such as 2026, stamped underneath their feet. The lettering is embossed in the vinyl. Sonny Angel figures like Robby Angel include a separate base, which also carries these same details.
Fake: The stamp may be missing, faint, crooked, difficult to read or contain spelling errors. The details may also look printed onto the surface instead of embossed in the vinyl. -
Figure quality and finish:
Real: Part of the reason Sonny Angel figures are so popular with collectors is their quality. They’re made from solid PVC (vinyl), so they feel sturdy in your hand. Their eyes are evenly spaced, with soft, natural-looking blush and clean paint lines. You may still notice tiny variations in the finish, giving each Sonny Angel a little individual character.
Fake: Fakes often feel unusually light or hollow and may rattle when handled. The difference in quality is usually noticeable, with uneven eyes, harsh blush, messy paint overlap, rough edges, incorrect colouring or missing details. -
Outer packaging:
Real: Regular Sonny Angel mini figures come in the iconic hexagonal blind box, with sharp printing and colours that match the official imagery for that series. The box is tightly shrink-wrapped, with the plastic heated to fit around it. This can leave small folds or a visible seam while still covering the box evenly.
Fake: Fake boxes may be the wrong shape or have blurry printing, noticeably different colours or missing details. The shrink wrap may also be very loose, open in large sections or missing entirely. -
Inner blind bag:
Real: Open a genuine Sonny Angel blind box and you’ll instantly spot the iconic foil bag, printed with the Sonny Angel logo and figure silhouette, keeping your figure hidden inside. The foil bag is usually white, with some series featuring their own coloured version. If a Secret figure or Robby Angel comes with an extra piece, such as a base, it may be packed in its own small plastic bag inside the foil bag.
Fake: If the figure itself is sitting inside a clear plastic bag, that’s a major red flag. Fake foil bags may also be missing the Sonny Angel logo or have blurry, incorrect or poor-quality printing. -
Bargain prices:
Real: Authentic Sonny Angels are priced similarly across authorised retailers, although the price can vary between series like Hippers and Limited Editions.
Fake: If the price seems too good to be true, it probably is! Bargain prices or huge discounts are a big red flag, especially when an older, sold-out Limited Edition series suddenly pops up for far less than you’d expect.
How do I know what my Sonny Angel figure should look like?
Each blind box lists the figures in that series, so if you’ve previously purchased from authorised retailers, you can check what their headgear should look like. You can also check the official Sonny Angel website, which documents the figures released across each series.
A quick note on older Sonny Angel series: Animal V1, V2, V3, V4, Fruit, Flower, Vegetable, Marine and Sweets received design updates from 2019 onwards. The official Sonny Angel website also shows this evolution - and it's super easy to visually compare the two.
